Here are my reasons: 1.) The American Flag industry, which hasn't had to come out with a new model for almost thirty years, will be revitalized by orders for new flags with 51 stars. 2.) We wouldn't have to worry about Communist intervention, for Grenada, and the surrounding seas that it controls would be AMERICAN. Likewise, there would be no complaints about putting a naval and Air Force and Army base there. 3.) Picture all the fresh fruit they could export to us. However, there would be some obstacles: 1.) This country's dole system would have to be dramatically increased to bring the islanders level of poverty up to the same level of poverty as experianced by the unfortunates in this country. (I will bet they would love to be as poor as we are.) 2.) Americans who want to study Beach Medicine at tropical paradises, specializing in treatment of sunburn and other afflictions, will now have have to face the AMA and will have their paradise turned into a school. 3.) Then every other island will probably want to join once they see the high standards of living. And then ... 4.) The black culture will be severely shaken by the influence of blacks speaking Jamacian-style English instead of jive. Not to mention the impact on clothing styles with the Carribean loincloths being seen around the Congress. 5.) The "South" as we know it today will no longer be south. It would be the "Upper South". And who knows what implications that could have on the redneck mentality when they have to think of themselves as being "Northerners" in regard to the "Lower South". NOTE: This blabbering is the product of someone who ate too much Turkey (and is still eating turkey. Why can't they get Turkeys that fit the number of people invited so there aren't any leftovers.) I hope I have not offended anyone, this is meant as a light look at what I think was a novel idea. Some of these comments were meant to take seriously, while others where not. -- Walt Pesch AT&T Western Electric
