Frankly, I don't think that the US population was deliberately lied to, even though quite a few people would like us to believe that, for purely political reasons. I do think that reporters were justifiably denied access for the first few days. I think the ban lasted too long, and I think it DID last too long because the military (not the president) was still afraid to find Cuban strongholds, and didn't want to give them directions to the ammo dumps. Just remember that, like you said, Ron Dellums routinely attacks Reagan. He isn't the only one with a vested PERSONAL (as opposed to moral or rational) in doing so.
