Um, Michael, I think that your definition of lies depends a lot
on what you call lies, what one call uncertainty, and what
one believes.  

Frankly, I don't think that the US population was deliberately 
lied to, even though quite a few people would like us to believe
that, for purely political reasons.  <After all, if the economy improves,
we don't die in a flash, and Jesse Helms doesn't manage to legislate
morality for the whole country, why then Reagan might even be
considered a good president.  Hmmmm.   Come to think of it...>

I do think that reporters were justifiably denied access for the
first few days.  I think the ban lasted too long, and I think
it DID last too long because the military (not the president)
was still afraid to find Cuban strongholds, and didn't want
to give them directions to the ammo dumps.  <Remember, it
seems true that the Cubans weren't an occupation brigade, but
it also appears true that the US government THOUGHT that
they were.  Given the assumption that the Cubans WERE an
occupation force, there was good reason to be
cautious.  Wrong  does not equal dishonest.>

Just remember that, like you said, Ron Dellums routinely attacks
Reagan.  He isn't the only one with a vested PERSONAL
(as opposed to moral or rational) in doing so.  

Has anyone heard a definitive statement from Alan Cranston?
How about Barry Goldwater?  <Those two statements should make
a good comparison of the less strident (although not
necessarily most reasonable) opposition viewpoints.>
