Yes, truffles can be made in the home. Martin Minow has posted a truffles recipe in net.cooks, for all who are adventurous enough to try to make some themselves. I will attempt to post another recipe (from the Silver Palate Cookbook) in the near future. A friend of mine made them and they came out rather well. Martin's article discusses coating the truffles with dark chocolate, which is probably a good idea since the truffle filling is extremely subject to melting (the coating is, but less so). By the way, does anyone have a DEFINITION of what a truffle is (supposed to be)??? I don't think it's being snobbish if you're letting everyone in on the potential enjoyment.
