WHY ARE THEY GLUTTING UP THE NET????? Let's have some more letters about the Lehrer songs that HAVEN'T been published. Here's a relevant note: Some people have heard TL sing "Have some Madeira, M'dear", delightfully lubricious Edwardian song, and have wondered why he hasn't recorded it. (Well I think he hasn't.) The answer -- it's not one of his. It was written by Donald Swann and the late Michael Flanders, and can be found on one of their two show records (At the drop of a Hat; At the drop of Another Hat). Many who enjoy Tom Lehrer do not realize something interesting about his musical roots: He is obviously much influenced by Joplin and other turn-of the century American "rag" composers and other American popular composers of about the same period. He acquired this musical influence long before the Joplin craze, when it was quite unfashionable to be researching these composers. - Keremath, care of: Robison decvax!ittvax!eosp1 or: allegra!eosp1
