Why not let the child use your tape recorder for creative story telling, in
the months (years?) between the development of hand to paper coordination, and
the development of the imagination and voice?
That way they do it all by themselves, develop the creativity and don't get
frustrated by the mechanics.  Then when they CAN write, they'll be on their
way already...
