If this is not the case, then he is doing it `wrong' (where `wrong' is an opinion on my part, of course). The thing is, I think that scheme would work out just fine given the way that uucp return addresses are generated: adding the names of the machines that a letter passes through, as it passes through. Letter from Laura to decvax!mumble!frotz!remote!person gets there through decvax!frotz!remote!person omitting `mumble', and the header would look something like this: From frotz!decvax!utcsstat!laura Mon Jan 1 00:00:01 1970 Date: Mon, 1 Jan 1983 00:00 EST From: Laura Creighton Subject: Flame! To: decvax!mumble!frotz!remote!person or for those of you still stuck with the v7 bell mailer: From uucp Mon Jan 1 00:00:01 1970 remote from frotz >From uucp Mon Jan 1 00:00:01 1970 remote from decvax >From laura Mon Jan 1 00:00:01 1970 remote from utcsstat Date: Mon, 1 Jan 1983 00:00 EST From: Laura Creighton Subject: Flame! To: decvax!mumble!frotz!remote!person The point is that although the To: line would not reflect reality, the From line (which most mailers I've ever seen depend on) would be correct. OK Armando, am I right? Erik E. Fair {ucbvax,amd70,zehntel,unisoft}!dual!fair Dual Systems Corporation, Berkeley, California P.S. Laura, I apologize if you (or anyone else) misconstrues that hypothetical header as a criticism of your usual mail to me or anyone else. \I/ know that you never flame.
