I have talked to the csnet people and they don't know of anything going on now, although there is talk of future research nets for various disciplines. It seem I saw a reference to a physics net somewhere. Maybe it was in a letter or a news brief in "Science" magazine (AAAS). I couldn't find it though. Does anyone know if there is any advanced physics dialog on the source or compuserve?
