        My step-father's name is GOTT.  The name seems to be fairly rare
(almost as rare as Budd), and I know almost nothing about the origin.
It sounds german, but I seriously doubt that any God-fearing german
would take on such a sacrilegious name.  It is probably short for
something or other, but I have no idea what.  Even his daughter, who
became a mormon by marriage (and, I guess, inclination) could find nothing
out about it.  Anybody ever heard of this name or have any idea of its
origin?

ps.  I have been told that ``budd'' appears to be a very old, pre-conquest,
english name, for what that's worth.
