You bet! I've worked on increasing my own earning potential. That why I (1) invest in real estate on the side (2) am going to go back to school again (3) drive an old beater even though I can well afford to buy a new car. When I get married, I will be mixing my finances with my spouse's. Why shouldn't I be concerned about HIS earnings and savings?? I'm certainly not looking for someone to support me.
