Anyone who (understandably given our culture) uses the word 
platonic is engaging in a misnomer.

Plato, in the original Ancient Greek, was talking about
the perfect love that can consist between two equals
*of the same sex*; more specifically, two men.

Later translators, bringing their Judeo-Christian
heterosexism into the study with them, excised the
homosexual overtones and kept the kernel of philosophiv
thought.
