If I were a librarian, and someone came up to the desk and said something to
the effect of "hi, I'd get to like to know you better, let's go out on Friday",
I'd probably tell them to get lost.

If that someone came up and said "gee it's a nice day outside..." and took the
time to get to know me and let me know him better -- say, 7 or 8 15~30 minute
chats over the course of two or three weeks.  THEN asked me to the movies,
I don't think he'd have much problem getting me to go.

Do you see the difference?
