My wife and I are planning a trip to Europe this March and one of the 
places we are thinking about visiting is the Canary Islands.  

Has anyone been there?  We imagine it to be a semi-tropical island 
(being close to the equator), but other than that we know nothing.  

Any comments, advice, etc. would be welcomed.
