The LA-120 will on reciept/transmital of a ^D attempt to disconnect.  If
a character comes in while this is in progress it'll get scrogged, a stream
of characters will eventually get straightened out after about 3 char. To
avoid problems TURN OFF AUTO_DISCONNECT (setup, d d S).
