I would like to find out about ways of measuring the information
content of a single-colour, two-dimensional line drawing --
a histogram, for example. I have
heard that people working in areas such as pattern recognition
have defined this sort of thing, but I am not quite sure of how
to find references on the subject. I would very much appreciate
hearing from someone who could point me in the right direction.
          
In replying, please remember I am a statistician with only a
