Blend: 1/2 cup shortening (oil e.g. Mazola, Wesson) 1-1/2 cup sugar (regular refined white stuff) Mix & add: 2-1/2 cup flour 1/2 cup cocoa 1-1/2 tsp baking soda 1 tsp salt Add: 1 cup sour milk 1 tsp vanilla Add: 1/2 cup boiling water. Mix thoroughly and bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Results in scrumptios chocolate cake. Note: If you don't happen to have any old sour milk, or if you want to do it the easy way (actually, I've never tried real honest-to-goodness sour milk), a cup of sour milk may be created by pouring out a cup of milk when you start and adding a little vinegar or lemon concentrate (a tsp or so); then let it stand until you need it.
