I think it was JFK who sent the first US troops (10-15K) into Vietnam.

Strange how it was one of the most revered presidents, JFK,  (or even 
LBJ whose administration is viewed as highly successful by historians)
who got the US into its "worst" war and an extremely lowly regarded
president, Tricky Dick, who got the US out.  (face it, he was a crook)
No flames - I don't think much one way or the other about any of these
3 men.
