That is a lot of wasted food. Yes food, for I consider deer to be a food crop to be harvested. According to the Interior Department, the deer census in this country is greater now than any other time in our history. This is due mainly to urbanization and restrictive hunting laws.. I am for harvesting the deer to bring their populations down to a more managable level. They are out of control in nearly every state in the union. Starvation kills more deer than anything else. Bringing in the wolves and other predators won't work as these critters do not fare well around humans. Thus its up to the hunters to attempt to manage the deer herds. Yes herds, I have personally seen a herd of over 150 devestate an apple orchard in less than two hours out in Washington State, and the owner could do nothing about it due to restrictive laws. Animals are not human nor should anyone attribute human traits to them. They are nice to have around, but when things get out of hand, it must be recognized and handled in the best way possible. T.
