However, Karl, I think you miss the point a bit. Although (very much to your credit) it is not important to *you* whether your prospective employee or fellow worker is phosphorescent purple- to a lot of people it does mean a great deal. Although *you* do not let simple bigotry stand in the way of a fair evaluation of another persons relative worth, many people do, and many people have for quite a long time. So much so that many people of ethnic minorities feel (and rightly so) that in order to be accepted they must "wear" the colors of the dominant majority. Who are they? Generally speaking, they are just like *you*, Caucasian people descended from European stock. (Please, Karl, I'm only stating fact.) And so, these ethnic minorities try to hold on to whatever culture that they can while still reaching out for the American pie(myself included- otherwise I'd only be playing with computers for fun :-) ). So you see, the statement "my people" is not an attempt to keep others out- as a matter of fact, many of us with minority backgrounds definitely want you folks without our backgrounds to come *in*, to try to understand who *we* are, and why we want to maintain some semblance(sp?) of our own ethnic traditions and folklore. After all, the traditions, folklore, and cultural leanings that we are taught in public schools all across the United States is that of the dominant majority- "*your* people".
