Here is the promised summary of peoples opinions on guns.  My original
question was:

Are you for or against owning guns and is your background rural or city?

People gave me a hard time by not keeping is as simple as I wanted. Many
seemed to want to differentiate between handguns and rifles.  This seems
a rather clumsy way to categorize the use a gun will be put to but as
valid as any other I guess. I've grouped the responses accordingly.

There also seemed to be other factors.  For instance, one person from
New York said:
"I would also point out that there are counties in Texas with ONE 
 sheriff.  Everyone owns guns since essentially 98 per cent of the land 
 is unincorporated, not part of a city and people enforce the law 
 themselves or it don't get enforced."
I'd guess he's from the city but thinks like someone from the country.

Several people did not answer the question as posed so I through their
responses out.  Two did not say anything about their background. One
said she was living in a city now (Toronto) which says little about
background.

You may draw your own conclusions. Any comments or criticisms are 
welcome.
