Not a fair punch! CACM publishes a fair amount of research yearly (some of
it is even worthwhile!). The November issue is a special issue because they
needed to change the printing schedule. Rather than do that gradually like
many publications, they cleaned up their backlog of research papers (~11
months) with an issue dedicated to them. This allows worthwhile (and
trivial, too) papers to get aired, and allows new research to be published
sooner, making everyones life better and healthier... CACM may not be the
best magazine in the field (if you like obscure research, try JACM), but it
isn't the worst by far (hello, BYTE, you listening?)
