I claimed that grammar underlies the way we think.  jj says
"speak for yourself."  I did.

jj thinks my assertion, "sloppy writing implies sloppy thinking"
slanders half the known universe.  Temper, temper, jj--
just because a person doesn't write SOMETHING right doesn't mean
he can't think ANYTHING right.  It means that he can't think THAT
SAME THING right.  Your sloppy writing on this point lends much
more credence to my argument than my flame did.

jj says "I do object to your spreading the idea that all who fail
to use perfect grammar are sub-human and unintelligent."  More
sloppy thinking, jj.  I just said, "sloppy."  Geez, I'm as sloppy
as the next guy.  I'm not proud of it, though.

As for the rest of jj's lamentable reaction: 
(1) I defend my right and his to
flame in net.flame without "giving references."  Would it matter
if one or more English Ph.D.'s agreed with me that grammar under-
lies the thinking process?  Why?
(2) An expression of alarm like "Fire!", which jj thinks I'd
scoff at, is a paragon of good grammar and concise writing.  It's
absolutely refreshing.  Encore, jj!  We'll have you doing subordinate
clauses in no time.

       And, since you insist on saying it, what does
       "JE MAINTIENDRAI"
       mean, anyhow?
       ===============================
"Je maintiendrai" is French.  It means "I can take it."  I can, too.

Actually, I was not flaming against jj in my condemnation of bad
grammar.  Anyone whose own flames cause so many to lean on the "f" key
long and hard (me, for example) knows how to communicate, AND WELL.
