chapter six of "the mismeasure of man" by stephen jay gould
(w.w. norton & co., 1981) is titled "the real error of cyril burt".

the references from gould's bibliography:

Hearnshaw, L.S. 1979. Cryil Burt psychologist.  London: Hodder and Stoughton,
	370pp.
	this is described as the "official" biography.

gould mentions some other sources, but without references.

very briefly, burt's "real error" was that he confused a mathematical
feature of his data with a physical feature of his subjects.
his other errors were that he faked data, and even collaborators, and
considered himself infallible.
