However, it has been pointed out that shells could be written with the escape sequences(generated by the function keys) as the shell-names. This seems rather precarious(?) to me. I have received many 'letters' with suggestions, programs, shells, etc. etc. Thanx for trying to help anyway. Meanwhile, I am trying to figure out why those particular functions are there anyway. All they do to me is lock up the terminal until a complete terminal reset is executed. (real handy!!!) If anybody discovers a marvelous new escape sequence for these 'dinosaurs', please let me know.
