A former neighbor (someone blackmailed his landlord to get him
evicted) has been, uh, self-employed for several years.  I hear now
that he's started up a new business somewhere over on the east side
of town, and the service he offers is -- well, unusual.  Let's say
you just quit a job because the boss was a real ogre, and the memory
of this character is so repugnant to you that you'd gladly pay any
price to give him a taste of what he gave you all that time.  This
operation is precisely what you need.  You just give them the guy's
name and address and pay the fee, and they'll tail him for a while
until they get a good handle on his habits.  Then sometime when they
know they can find him alone in a remote part of town, but when
someone else is (conveniently) present to observe (surreptitiously,
of course) carefully selected parts of what's going on, they'll pull
off a mugging or a burglary (murder costs extra, because they have
to fly in a guy from Houston for that) on the sly, and since your
"friend" was the only one seen there at the time, well -- you can
guess the rest.  Now, it seems that the prices at which they offer
this service aren't exactly what you'd ordinarily consider bargain-
basement, and as a consequence, business isn't really booming yet.
This, however, was a minor hurdle, since they quickly decided to
branch out into a related field.  To be specific, they've set up a
sort of showroom and booking agency for some of the evening-hour
professionals who are so common on East Sixth.  It's just your basic
body and frame shop.
