During a visit to the Dominican Republic, my father
was having diner with some local friends.  He was
doing quite well with his Spanish class Spanish
until the waitress asked if anyone wanted more coffee.
He said he would like a little, at which point the
waitress slapped him and his hosts rolled on the floor
in laughter.  It was finally explained to him that
he had used a local idiomatic phrase asking for a little
of something other than coffee.
