The way I heard the airline vs. time joke (some years ago) was:

Pilot to tower: What time is it?
Tower to pilot: Please identify yourself.
Pilot: What difference does it make who I am?  All I need is the time.
Tower: It makes a lot of difference.  If you're military, it's 1400 hours.  If
       you're United, it's 2:00 p.m.  If you're Allegheny, Mickey's big hand
       is on the "12" and his little hand is on the "2".  And if you're
       Braniff, it's Thursday....
