The official English Army history of the battle of Waterloo translates: Merde to: The Old Guard never surrenders. (At the end of the battle Wellington asked the French Old Guard surrender since they were pretty much facing the entire English Army alone). Davy Crockett had these last words (for his ex-constituents) after losing his bid for reelection to the U.S. Senate: You can all can go to hell, I'm going to Texas! (He shortly afterwards became the third Colonel at the mission in San Antionio aka the Alamo). Forward into the Past Tom Harris P.S. merde is usually translated into English as fuvg (rot13).
