I didn't read the original article -- I stumbled across a reply --
so I may be way off the mark.  

I have adapted the UCSD p-System to run under 4.1bsd Unix on a Vax.
It is Version II.0 and, though there are some limitations, it runs
quite well.  If something like this is what you're after, I'd be
glad to send you a copy (if you have a Version II license).
