Texas CS Dept., Austin, Texas Lines: 24 The creation of net.nlang.celts raises some interesting questions. One of them (which I won't pursue any further than simply to pose it) is why it should be a subgroup of net.nlang. The other is simply: why just Celts? Why not other ethnic/linguistic groups as well? I mean no disrespect for our Celtic friends, but I suspect that there are at least as many people on the net with an interest in/a knowledge of Hispanic, German, French, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, African, ... languages and/or cultures as Celtic ones. I am not proposing any specific newsgroups. What I am doing is volun- teering to count votes for other ethnic/linguistic newsgroups. In a week or two I will tally the results and post them to net.news.group. If there is sufficient interest (whatever that means -- did someone once say that 20 "yes" votes were enough?) I trust that the Powerful Ones who create newsgroups will do their stuff. Please mail your nominations to ...ut-sally!riddle. Discussion of the question of ethnic/linguistic newsgroups in general should be posted to net.news.group. ---- Prentiss Riddle {ihnp4,seismo,ctvax}!ut-sally!riddle riddle@ut-sally.UUCP
