8 1/2 wasn't quite Fellini's 9th movie, and he was quite satisfied with it.
The reason for the name is that he had previously made seven films and a
"half" film -- I believe it was unfinished, though it may have been a short.
So 8 1/2 actually was his 8 1/2th (eight-and-a-halfth?) film.
