This business rather reminds me of an undergraduate friend whose
college life and possible career were ruined by the US Labor party's
intelligentsia arm.

Was tragic.  Many of us spent long hours talking to him about the
inane ideas of that particular political group, to no avail.  I never
heard from him again after he left school to go work for them in NYC.
