Mark Twain would also have undoubtedly said that the true "patriot"
is the person strong enough to stand up and oppose War, even when the
whole country is inflamed with military madness, and when that
person is likely to be jailed ,ridiculed and censored for opposing
War.  As eloquent testimony to his views on the subject, Net literati
might want to read his piece "A War Prayer".  It is a very moving
antiwar statement.
