Lynda, you hit it on the nose; a friendship *is* the best basis to build
a relationship on.  And, sort of a supplement to that; if you're
interested in someone and they don't seem romantically interested in
you, don't despair, don't send mash notes and don't jump off a bridge.
Try to just be their friend, instead.  Because - if you truly like the
person, you'll enjoy all the time you spend with them, even if you are
wishing for something more.  And - well, I felt that way about someone
once; we became friends and got closer and closer, and <finally> after a
year and a half he fell in love with me, too.  The extra-nice part of
that too is that if/when you break up or end the romantic part of the
relationship, you've still got a solid friendship and you can still have
fun together.
