While living in Arcata, Ca several years ago, I drove to Bend, Oregon for a weekend of skiing. While there, my car . broke down. I had to be back in Arcata the following day, so I left the car at a garage in Bend, and started hitch- hiking. After a few rides, I found myself in the middle of no-where, standing along side of a deserted highway at some time on the order of midnight, in a snowstorm, wondering if my body would be found before Spring. Along comes the car driven by the woman who would be my lover for the next three years. Of course she did not announce herself as such immediately. We had a long, humorous conversation during which she drove me some 50 miles out of her way, and agreed to put me up for the night when I came back through the following weekend to get my car. As planned, I stopped in the following weekend, spent an uneventful night on the floor, and left early the next morning, leaving her an invitation to visit me in Idaho in a few weeks. Much to my surprise (and delight) she showed up on schedule and things took off from there. Rich Ganns hou2a!murphy
