This topic should provoke a lot of worthwhile discussion, but at the
same time isn't it a little absurd?  One cannot change the past; either
one has loved or one has not.  The motive for *believing* that it is
better never to have loved is to justify one's not intending to love in
the future.  The motive for believing that it is better is to justify
one's wanting to love again.

And when the chips are down it will probably make no difference which
you believe.
