  As a matter of fact, the service I was in had you make a two minute
tape of yourself. They did an interview with you so at least the tapes would
have a somewhat standardized format, but you got to choose from dozens of 
possible questions they could ask you, ranging from a down-to-earth
"What is your favorite activity on a date" to "If you could be President
for a day, what would you do?". The problem here is that it is impossible
to tell if you will want a close relationship with someone from a two-minute
tape. You can only fit so much into two minutes! I'd hate to think about
what a new net user might think of me if he read just one of my net.singles
articles! :-) (Depending on which one, of course).
   I felt "ripped off" because I had to pay $75 and the women only $10.
Why is this? The answer is clear: in this town at least, there are more
men looking to meet women than vice versa. The video format I thought
had good possiblities, and I have no complaints about that. If you saw
someone whose tape you liked, you could have the club let them know,
and they would come down and look at your tape. Then they could decide
if they wanted to meet you. I picked out at least 15-20 tapes that I liked,
and was only accepted twice with the already-reported results. The reason
I was disappointed was that I hoped the club (which started out as a roommate
finding service) would overcome a basic demographical deficiency of this area,
but it didn't. I think only blind luck can do that.
