San Diego, Chemistry Dept. Administration Lines: 34 The following are a couple of examples of what I consider "trying too hard". Recently a man I had met a few days before called me to ask me to dinner. At this point I was interested and wanted to go. I am very, nay, EXTREMELY busy on weeknights with several classes I am taking. He asked me out for the next evening, I said I couldn't make it. He said well how about the next day lunch (no I work and only get 30 mins. for lunch) well then how about that night or the next night. At this point I felt pressured. I turned him down for all nights. He said in a rejected sort of voice "I get it" and hung up. Sigh. If, when I first said no, he would have asked me when I had a free evening OR asked me if I even wanted to go out we might have gotten somewhere. As it was he felt rejected, I felt unhappy, and we never got a chance to communicate properly. The next example is something Bob P. brought up in his article. Well Bob, I can't tell you WHY but you are correct, buying flowers (at least in my case) is a complete turn off. I do not like it, especially having them delivered at work. It just makes me groan. I'm talking about flowers from a florist. If someone picks me some wildflowers or a rose from their garden I love that. Or if a person buys me a single flower and brings it to me in person, that's nice too. Those things stike me as romantic. I'm not really sure why I don't like the other. I guess it's that anyone can BUY flowers but it takes a special person to pick a daisy and think of me. This article has become long enough. I submitted this for the men out there to give you an example of how at least one woman thinks. Happy Holidays, Denise {ucbvax, philabs}sdcsvax!sdchema!djo
