Astrophysics Lines: 10 Neither was it developed to deploy particle beam weapons. NASA's Shuttle program was and is designed to deploy and service a manned civilian space station. Obviously it can be used for many things, but so can any transportation system. If NASA has had to seek moral support from the DoD (but not money; the STS is purely NASA funded), you can blame Walter Mondale and William Proxmire for trying to eviscerate the civilian space program during the 70's. Pray tell me, what is the military intending to do with Spacelab and Space Telescope? dp
