Due to the expense involved, I would like to gather as much information as possible. I would welcome any and all comments about various brands, models, etc., as well as leads to published reviews or comparison reports. A few particular questions: 1. A great deal of the recordings will be of family and thus have long-term value. Is there any known life expectancy of various brands of tape and what measures can be taken to prolong it? 2. Upward compatability... Because of #1, upward compatability is an important concern. Is it more prudent to go to VHS format because of the seemingly larger number of vendors, or does BETA have a long future also? 3. Any guesses on the life-span of video tape systems in general before they become obsolete by a new technology? Thanks for any info....
