Their transmitter is on the Queens-Nassau border on the North Shore of Long Island. They introduce music such as The Cure and Billy Idol long before they make "Top Forty" and are then played ad nausea by WPLJ. WLIR's morning show is sometimes a bit silly, but the evening show with Dennis McNamara is fairly good. You will hear a number of European groups, and some of their songs have their lyrics in French or German (I particularly liked "Nir Wurz Zwei" which is a German song written to a modified tune of "Safety Dance", performed by Bang-Bang. Incidentally the English translation of the title is "Only the Two of Us".). Some of the college stations have excellent programming, but since I have not yet purchased a new FM Tuner (I could write a soap opera about my experience looking for a tuner) I can only hear them occasionally. I have heard interesting music from Fordham (WFUV) and Hofstra. Another good station is WBAB. Brian Bertan Philips Labs Briarcliff Manor, NY {seismo | decvax | allegra}!philabs!brb (914) 945-6309
