(The only break cable on a Rabbit is for the parking break.) These aluminum lines are subjected to water and road salt and may develop holes allowing the brake fluid to escape. The system on Rabbits is dual diagonal so even if a hole does develop on one diagonal, the other diagonal line will still be ok and stop on one front and one rear wheel. VW will replace the aluminum brake lines but not any leaks under the recall agreement. Art Deacon AT&T Bell Laboratories
