After having my car painted last year I was told by the owner of the
body shop to wait 6-8 weeks before waxing my car.  It is O.K. to 
wash it before then but use mild soap and lots of water.  If the 
car is waxed too soon moisture that was in the paint when it was
applied will be trapped and the paint will crack.  I am surprised
that they didn't tell you all of this when you got your car painted.
