(Indiana University) Lines: 51 RE: The General Motors' Diesel Engine (circa. 1978-1981) I am the broke owner of a 1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Diesel Car. If anyone watched 20/20 on ABC last night...they should know the story. It (GM's diesel engine) has been called the biggest lemon in automotive history. I agree. I have owned the car since August, 1982. I have sunk $2,500 in repairs thus far. (3 cracked heads, 2 fuel pumps, several injectors and misc. transmission work) I am bringing this to the net in hopes of attracting similar people with similar cars to unite and fight GM! There is hope! I am a member of the Disgruntled-Diesel Owner's Group (DDOG) in Vienna, Virginia. The group has been very successful in bringing claims to GM. It's members (some 4000 strong) have had repairs on their diesels ranging from a few hundred $$ to $7,000. I feel that belonging to a group is far more beneficial than to proceed into arbitration alone! One person vs. One BIG corporation...think about it. The company is aware of their malady. They are "most anxious to address consumer complaints" and settle with individuals out-of-court. This gives them a chance to reclaim customers who said the diesel car was the LAST GM product they would ever buy. And you can believe word travels fast! I therefore submit this to net.auto in hopes of helping those with similar situations. I would be more than happy to reply to anyone concerned with this and help in any way.
