In case of communication failure, I'd fly at the appropriate
en-route altitude to the FAF, and descend in the holding pattern there
to the proper altitude for the approach.  You have to hold there until
the Expect-Approach-Clearance time (or estimated arrival time) anyway,
before shooting the approach.
