We have been using 4 foot spacing here.  This allows room for the
student to put notes, listing, etc. (pick one) next to the terminal.  In
one of our rooms, we had to go to 3 foot spacing.  It really feels much
more crowded, and you can barely get an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper
between the terminals.
