Thomas We recently switched to 4.2Bsd, and I have found that, for some unknown reason, all our old .mo files do very strange things, including causing emacs to segmentation fault. Solution is very simple - remove and regenerate .mo files. Could this be your problem? I have run up against the top of the macro table many times, and never had a segmentation fault from it. =S
