"Would you like a drink (fries, pie, etc) with that?" is known as "suggestive sell". It is a merchandising technique used by a fast food institution to try and sell more product to a customer who is already in the store. "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." >From my experience as the counter person, (who, by the way, is instructed to ask this of every customer) this sometimes helps people remember to get something which they forgot to mention. Granted, if you say "NO, that's all I want", then the counter person should'nt ask you if you'd like a hot apple pie for dessert. In conclusion, don't get irate at the fast food employee for asking these kind of questions. They are instructed to do this by their management, which is trying to sell more product. If you want to get irate at someone, write the fast food chain a letter. At best, this will net you a dozen coupons for free Big Macs or the like. Dave Holt {allegra,ihnp4,uiucdcs}!parsec!holt
