Also, they spent about a million dollars to knock out several hundred trees on I-57 just north of Effingham, IL, to put in a big rest area. But they decided not to put in restrooms, so people just went in whatever trees were remaining. They didn't want people doing that, but they still didn't want to build johns, so they just closed the whole damn thing down anyway. Jeez, how stupid. I haven't been on 57 for a few years, so I don't know what the story is down there. One thing's for sure, Illinois has lousy rest areas. Holy cow, the Kansas Turnpike is the worst. It's in much worse shape than most interstates, and you have to pay anyway for it. Whenever I go west of Kansas City on I-70 I feel like grabbing the attendant's glasses and throw- ing them in front of my rear wheel. What I also really hate is when groups take busses down to Florida with signs saying, "Honk if you are 'whatever'" in the windows. So trite. using mather's signon D A Dahl
