Hate, you say? I hate Reagan? Where in anything I have written could you get that idea? Maybe a bit of projection, hmmm....? Yes, I do believe the economy is an awful lot worse than under Carter or even the sainted Nixon. Just try looking at a few statistics. Even the budget deficit will tell you. It's not the worst index of economic health, even though people do look at it for the wrong things. Try unemployment. Try steel production. Try car sales. In fact, look at almost any indicator you choose, and tell me things weren't a hell of a lot better three years ago. But do be serious, and don't just let off emotional flames at the first sight of something that you don't like to believe. I really do wonder at people who look at todays's economy as good. We've been down so far that anywhere up looks to be the top of the mountain. No, I don't hate Reagan. I think he has been right on two points: support of nuclear power, and support for the space station. But I don't see that he supports individual responsibility, any more than Nixon did. Licence, perhaps, provided that it is economic, but not responsibility. He might be my hero if he did that. I can't support someone as anti-democratic as Reagan. He's not as bad as Nixon, of course, but certainly not one to support the necessaryfoundations of democracy, any more than he supports a sound economic or foreign program. Now, dear jj, let's move this to net.iran. -- Martin Taylor {allegra,linus,ihnp4,uw-beaver,floyd,ubc-vision}!utzoo!dciem!mmt
