Alcoholism is not a good analogy to driving without a seatbelt.
Just because someone drives without buckling up, does not mean
that person is going to hurt themselves (or others).  It also
does not mean that person has ever experienced the impact of
not wearing the seatbelt.  I understand your point, but I think
the comparison is just a bit EXTREME.
